Tim, this is fantastic news! I know the community in PDX has been without large events for some time now, and a GP in our backyard will be very exciting. I'll definitely talk the even up in my local haunts; get some local players in on the news they might not yet know, if that's alright. I don't think I can not be excited to have such an opportunity for the Portland gamers, to say the least of those in the outlying states to have another GP. I will be looking forward to this.

Guess not. I really though we were looking at 150 not 250+ as an attendance number.

I want to again apologize to the players for the delay. However adding an additional room made the day much better for everyone.

The game is really easy to pick up. I Demo'd it on one of my breaks from running events at the SJC.

If you like WOW, but wish it was faster and had Spider-Man (two of my biggest problems with WOW) then you'll really enjoy it.

You start the game with 50 health and
7 cards in your hand. Every turn, even turn 1, you draw a card.
The Game begins on turn 3. Meaning, You start the game with 3 resources right away. You have a main Hero personality and allies. Using your hero and allies you battle your opponent. Unlike WOW, allies can attack the turn they come into play. But, like WOW your hero has no Attack value at the beginning of the game. To play allies you exhaust resources and recruit them.
Allies are unique unless they share a name with your hero. They have an attack value and health value. When damage is done to the ally damage counters are put on the card, when there are more damage counters than there is health the ally is KO'd.

Resources system is dedicated resources. There are 2 kinds. The first is your base of operations which you start the game with 3 of. Next is your City resources. City resources give you Hero an Attack bonus.

The game isn't just hero and allies though, there are also Action cards. Action cards play like abilities in WOW. You pay the cost by exhausting resources and use the effect. They can be played at any time from a players hand.
Every time you play an action card, you place a charge counter on you main hero. Charge counters are used to pay for your hero's ability (instead of using resources like WOW)

I Demo'd with Iron Man who's effect was "Charge 2 -> Deal 3 damage to target hero or ally."
I played against Wolverine, who had "Charge 2 -> Heal 5 damage from Wolverine."
Charge effects can only be used once per turn, but do not exhaust your hero.

The game uses movie images for artwork. All the cards in the demo deck i used used Art from Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. The Wolverine deck featured from X-Men: Origins-Last Stand.

I spoke with the lead marketing director for Marvel Superstars, Ben Seck (TBS). He mentioned the game could still change between now and February. The goal is to release a new expansion, not necessarily a new set, every 4 months or so. He made an example or saying "when the Captain America movie is released, we want to release a starter deck that matches the movie."

The Core set is due to release in February with demo decks made available online to print proxy in January.

My impression of the game is it a perfect follow-up to WOW, especially if Blizzard does not resign the license. The basics on the game are simple, the person I demo'd against had only played 1 or 2 games of WOW the year before and picked it up real quick.

It does need some tweaking, the draw 1 per turn is booty. Resource dedicated games that allow only 1 card per turn lead to getting Mana screwed, one thing that usually didn't happen in VS.

I'm excited about it, when the demo decks become available I'm probably going to e-mail Charsky about it.

While i do love me some yu-gi-oh, i did like VS a whole lot more. And while this isn't exactly like VS I just can't say no to a Pepper Potts character card.
