Cascade Games will not be holding a prerelease in AZ. I have conflicted feeling about this. However clear to me that what Cascade Games does best is hold really large event. If attendance is low then thats not an event we should be running.

In AZ. we never broke 100 entrys – and that was no where close to 100 unique players. It just doesn’t make sense for Cascade Games to run that sized event.

So I’m sorry to everyone who this is a disappointment for.  But it just didn’t work out.

We will continue running PTQ’s and everything else that we do now – just not a prerelease.

Barack Obama Names Alan Moore Official White House Biographer
NOVEMBER 4, 2009 | ISSUE 45•45
02.10.09
WASHINGTON—At a press conference Monday, President Obama announced that he had appointed legendary comic book writer Alan Moore as the official biographer of his time in the White House. “As evidenced by his epic run on Swamp Thing #21–64, Moore’s deft hand with both sociopolitical commentary and metaphysical violence makes him an ideal choice to chronicle my time in office,” Obama said of the author of Watchmen and From Hell, whom he reportedly chose over others on a short list of potential biographers that included Warren Ellis, Grant Morrison, and Bob Woodward. “I look forward to seeing the kinds of subplots he will surely weave throughout the main narrative of my presidency, and how he’ll tie them all back together at the end in a way that just elevates the thing to a whole other level. God, that guy is the master.” Although Obama has not yet settled on a publisher for his White House biography, he is reportedly leaning toward DC’s Vertigo imprint for its creator-friendly ethos, high production values, and willingness to publish content for mature readers.

So far the list of confirmed R&D folks to gunsling at the seattle prerelease so far ….

Jason Radabaugh, Kelly Digges, Graeme Hopkins, and Dave Guskin – confirmed.  Local favorite, lvl 2 judge and R&D guy – Jay Schneider isn’t sure if he can make it.

Its very likely we will have more – this is just the list that has confirmed so far.

and remember were at the washington state convention center 6th floor – right next to where we were for PAX – NOT Seattle center

BB memorial decksI’m having trouble getting the decklists to display as anything but a very very long list of text. So I had Mike convert it to a jpeg.  Hope this shows up OK.

as always names of players have been changed to initials – gotta make the lawyers happy and no they are not in order of finishing.

This saturday we held a very successful charity event – the Brian Baker memorial tournament.

As you likely know, Brian was a long time Magic judge in Seattle WA.  Brian loved events and when he passed away a couple months ago many members of the Magic community wanted to help with a tournament in his honor.

I am delighted to report that larger Magic community really stepped up in ways that was amazing.  Huge numbers of people stepped up and donated prizes.  Star City gave a Black Lotus, one of the players donated a Mox another donated a Time Twister.  Electronics prizes include a Wii and a DS. As well there was a huge amount of judge foils and magic sets. – wow.

In addition, the Judges donated their time, Seattle Center donated the room for the event, Dwayne, Eelco and Todd did a huge amount of work to make this happen.

We also had 144 players who came out to play for the charity event.  Thank you players.

Thank you all.

PS – if I missed anyone just send me a quick email – I would hate to miss anyone.

I will be writing the check to charity The Northwest Epilepsy Foundation for over $3,000 later this week.

The winners for the event were

1 – Ledbetter

2 – Monks

3 – Short

4 – Hopkins

5 – Wong

6 – McCall

7 – Huteson

8 – Bolanos

Its important to remember that swine flu is not life threatning in most cases.  Please contact your Doctor or health clinic if you have flu symptoms.

Having said that I have very limited information on the swine flu at PAX.

I am told there are multiple cases of Swine Flu including one guy who was playing in our Magic tournaments all day Friday and Saturday at PAX.

I will post more as I find out anything.

Its really hard to estimate before an event just how many players will play at a Con.  I knew PAX was going to be good but I had no idea just how good it was going to be.

Right now as I write this – I’m sitting in the Magic area at PAX and there are about 60 players, 60 players at 10:30 on a sunday AM. The sunday after everyone was up very very late with PAX parties.

We smashed all my attendance estimates all weekend.  Everyone has been having a great time – I love PAX.

On Friday night we ran a Mini-master with 144 players. 144 Players in a Mini-master that I was expecting 32 for. Wow.

Magic at PAX is huge. PAX is crazy fun. There is so much to do here. YOU HAVE  TO CHECK OUT PAX

Tim

The three Magic artists we have signing at PAX in the Magic Gaming area are

Mark Tedin – Mark plans on signing all three days – hours TBD

Todd Lockwood – Todd plans of signing on Saturday only from 1pm to 6pm.

and Richard Whitters who is going to sign Saturday and Sunday – exact hours TBD.

If you go to GenCon this year – please post a review of Upper Deck new Marvel game.  I’m not going to be able to attend and I’m really curious about the new game. I was a big Vs fan but drifted off as the game became more complex. My guess is that its going to be hard to get players to take a look at the new game – but I’m open to at least hearing about the new game – so if you give it a try please let me know.

“Marvel Superstars TCG

In February Published: 08/10/2009 02:04am

Upper Deck will release the Marvel Superstars TCG, a new game based on the Marvel Universe as envisioned by the movies, in February.  This will be the first time that the movies, including Iron Man, Hulk, Fantastic Four, the X-Men Trilogy, the Blade Trilogy and others, will interact with each other in a Marvel game.

A Starter Deck will be the first release, followed a few weeks later by the Booster Packs.  Approximately 300 cards will be released in the first set.

Each player chooses to become a classic Marvel hero or villain, then constructs a team to defeat the opponent.

Upper Deck will be hosting demos using a beta version of the game at Gen Con this week. “
