Gen Con Indy 2011 Promo Passes at Magic GP Portland
by Gen Con Indy on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 1:13pm

Knock the inner gamer out of the Gen Con staff. Win a promo pass.

If you are going to be battling in the upcoming Grand Prix Portland for Magic: the Gathering (details at http://bit.ly/9CenpA ) you have a chance to win a promo pass to next year’s Gen Con Indy.

I will be among the ranks of thousands cracking packs and hoping for that Magic mixture of mythic Titan power, blue and white cards, and for my finest tuned sealed-deck skills to come together well. More than likely, I’ll just be a piñata, spilling promo passes to players who defeat me.

As only a few people will be paired against me, you can also follow posts on http://www.twitter.com/gen_con or look for updates here. A few times during the day I’ll be sure to post a “first person to find me gets a pass” type of post, too.

Hope to see you there!

Great news, Richard Garfield has agreed to sign at GP Portland. On saturday he will sign from 2pm to 4pm.

Is this going to be the best GP ever?

I keep having people ask me if they can have a friend pre-reg for them.

The quick answer is yes – but. Limitations are no refunds and although I have a lot of playmats supplies are limited. When they are gone, they are gone.

Players who preregister for GP Portland on Friday will receive an exclusive
event playmat while supplies last. Preregistration must be done in person or by
a designated representative paying the entry fee and with a confirmed DCI
number. No refunds will be made for anyone preregistering who does not play in
the main event. If you are preregistered in this way and unable to play, you or
a designated representative may receive your product on Saturday morning or any
time during the weekend. At the head judge’s discretion, you may also be paired
into the first round and given a match loss then dropped per the DCI’s event
policy.

My good friend Scott Elliott from GenCon will be at GP Portland. Scott just announced that he will be passing out passes to GenCon at GP Portland. I don’t have full details on how many or how he will be passing them out – but I will post as I find out.

Gen Con Indy Now that Summer is a wrap, it’s time for Gen Con staff to do some gaming! See you in Portland September 10-12. One of our resident gamers will be playing Magic the Gathering and giving away some promo passes on Saturday. More details to follow next week.

Corey Macourek has agreed to sign at GP Portland.

In addition to his Magic card art, Corey worked at Wizards of the Coast for years as a graphic artist. He has also done art for multiple games.

Register in person for the GP Portland main event on Friday Sept 10th and get a Free GP Portland Playmat. GP Portland registration begins at noon Sept 10th. while supplies last – Quantities are limited.

This is just like the GP Seattle playmat, same materials, same deal register early (in person only) and get one for free – but its way more cool. The image is from the Scars of Mirrodin set and the art is by Matt Cavotta.

If you want an early peek at the playmat, I’m trying to get some rushed to the Magic events I’m running at PAX. I can’t give them out there but I will try to have a couple for people to see.

32-Player Single Elimination – Starting at noon – open entry until 10 p.m.
M11 Sealed Deck
New event start every time we get 32 players
1st place wins a 3-round bye to Grand Prix and 1/2 Box
2nd place wins 1/2 Box of Magic 2011
3rd/4th win 1/4 Box each of Magic 2011

Thanks
Tim

Check out the cascadegames.com site and click on PAX for a list of the Magic events we are running at PAX this year. Its amazing.

We have bunch of factory sealed sets of Magic to give away including a foil M11 set.

Last year the mini-master events were really popular. We have made them better this year. The prizes for mini-master are really cool (factory sealed sets) and if your eliminated theres another mini-master starting in a few minutes. I also have some operational changes to streamline events.

I also convinced Wizards to give us three Grand Prix Trials. Yes, you can use the bye you win at PAX the next week at GP Portland! Go play at your local stores GPT but if you don’t have the byes you want come by PAX and give it a shot.
